Last night's game was not ideal; we were winning 2-1 with 8 minutes left and I let a goal in. Player streaking down my left side, my defense got walked, and somehow it snuck through my stick. Those ones burn...always expect more from yourself. I came back that night and went out on our home ice for an hour (they allow us to basically skate when anyone hasn't bought our ice). I was tired from the game, but there's just something very unique about being the only one on a sheet of frozen water in a big college ice rink after midnight that feels better than anywhere else in the world.
Anyway, we have today off from hockey- these little gems of nothingness are very very rare. You look forward to days off because A.) as a college athlete you're in good enough shape that taking a day off is more healthy than working out everyday B.) as a student-athlete it's a constant struggle to find time to do work. Days off are a funny thing though, because you have so much to do that you literally get nothing done. I spent my day off working for the athletic department. I am financially independent at a very young age (wow my blog just got a whole lot more interesting eh?). A financially independent student athlete = A very poor person. It is not the lack of desire to work that kills me; it's the fact that there are only 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, and most of them are filled leaving no time to make money. I worked for 8 hours straight today, so techinically my "day off" was a "day on", but you take what you can get.
Review of Game (Oct 29)
1.) Good looking through screens
2.) Way to be patient on breakaways
1.) Choked at the end- stay in the now and be proactive

Gameday
October 29, 2010
Gamedays are always a little bit different than every other day. First off, they are the days that I literally eat, sleep, and breathe for all week. For me, preparation for a game begins 24 hours after the last game. Everyday in practice is another day that I am preparing specifically for my performances on the weekend. On the day of a game, it is vital that I stay as calm as physically possible in order to conserve energy and get focused.

S:banana, granola/yogurt -water-
L: chicken, pasta, bread (team meal) -iced tea-

Review of Practice (Oct 28)
1.) Good work staying off your ass- steady improvement
2.) solid regaining on breakaways even though you didn't win the competition
1.) Low right side--> mentally practice getting your blocker there
Game Goals
1.) more deep breaths than you think you need to take
2.) stay off your ass; play big
3.) 100% from drop of the puck to the last buzzer

Esse Quam Videri
As a D1 college athlete, I am living my dream. And there you go- thinking about hitting that next blog button. If my title didn't bore you, my cliche opening line did. You're looking for an exciting blog about a person trying to lose 100 lbs in a month or a person who will share every pressing detail of their medical treatment like an ongoing episode of Greys Anatomy. I'm not that person, but I'm living my dream...and that's enough for me. Welcome to my little red book...good luck.
